What is a blog?

Blog is the short form of the term Web Log or weblog. His can be defined as a sort of Web site where various ‘posts’ or entries are generally displayed in a date wise fashion. The posts are arranged in a reverse chronological order so that the last posts are seen first and the previous post below it and so on. The users can set up their blogs and tweak the settings according to preference and determines how many entries can be seen in one page. The term ‘blog’ may also be used as a verb, which basically means to add content or maintain a blog.

A number of blogs tells readers about the latest news on a particular subject. Many others are just online diaries by individuals which can be read by anyone having access to an Internet connection. Normally, a blog has a number of elements like content, pictures, and links to web pages, other blogs, and various media related to the subject being discussed. After reading a post, readers can leave their comments if the blog owner so desires.

Blogs have become a very popular medium of communication in the present day. At the beginning of this year, the popular blog search engine Technorati was tracking a huge number of blogs, in excess of 112 million.
